Are some people more inclined to collaboration than others? Do some
teams show a natural propensity for collaboration whilst others seem to
resist it? Is it possible to lead a team or an organisation so that
collaboration is engendered and fostered? These are some of the questions GBPA set out to answer in our
latest Discovery Project, 'Being collaborative - the essential
capability for success in today's business environment', which is
available now. At
the same time, GBPA is making available a practical set of tools to assess
people's innate propensity to collaborate, or encourage collaboration in
others - their 'collaborativeness'. The tools - available on our website - enable assessment of the
level of collaboration as individual, team and leader. Each of the tools
has sets of questions framed to assess the level of collaborativeness
grouped under four logical levels:

Many organisations in the West now have significant partnering,
customer and supplier relationships with organisations in India and China,
and vice versa. This has led GBPA to undertake two significant new
Discovery projects. One focused on partnering with companies in
India, which is well underway, and the other with companies in
China. The objective is to discover the key challenges that Indian,
Chinese and Western companies experience when partnering with each other,
and what they regard as the key enablers to partnership
success. To
participate in this Discovery project, contact Magda Pansegrouw mpansegrouw@gbpalliance.com

As
with the term 'partnering', organisations talk about 'collaboration'
regularly, but what does a collaborative approach to a business really
mean? 'Collaboration' has become yet another corporate buzzword, but what
does it really mean? In
this session in London on 24 June, we will explore the principles of
collaboration and identify the business benefits
experienced. To

Successful collaborative outsourcing relationships rely on
effective relationship managers in both parties. But few appreciate the
strategic significance of the role, according to GBPA chairman Philip
Anderson. It
is often said that: "Contacts not contracts make for successful
relationships". And that "For outsourcing and offshoring to operate
optimally it requires effective collaboration between the parties, best
characterised by a sense of partnership". If
organisations accept these sentiments, what can they do to embrace these
notions - and, more importantly, make them a reality? These challenges and other requirements for successful relationship
management were explored in an article, by Philip Anderson, published
recently in CXO Europe.

The next GBPA Special Interest Forums (SIFs) in London are morning
sessions (09:00 to 11:30), with the following topics: Innovating together - 15 May - focused on customer /
supplier relationships; it will study the most effective partnership
behaviours and operations to facilitate a climate for innovation. We will
examine the environment and processes to surface complementary skills,
capabilities and knowledge from each partner so as to bring forward
innovative ideas, actions and strategies. Setting goals and measures for innovation - 5 June - the
second stage on the Innovation Journey facilitated by Paul Sloane, a
recognized expert on innovation. During this highly interactive session we
will focus on the goals, metrics and targets for innovation, so as to
enable participants from across different organisations to explore how can
we plan for success, identify the pitfalls to avoid and get a win /
win. To
register for either of these SIFs, contact Sue O'Connor soconnor@gbpalliance.com
